How To Find the Correct Golf Glove for You

What hand does my glove go on?

Golf gloves come one glove per package. Typically, right handed golfers wear the glove on their left hand. Left handed golfers, opposite of righties, wear their glove on the right hand. Now, that doesn’t mean you can’t wear gloves on both hands if that feels comfortable to you, but is not necessary and really not that common.

Where to start?

Gloves are not required for golf; it’s merely a personal preference. Some golfers only wear the glove for driving the ball off the tee to insure good feel on the downswing and then through contact. Others wear one for the entire round, never taking it off. Most take the glove off only when putting, like when they’re driving the ball off the tee, they want to ensure a good feel for the club in hand and feel when ball releases from the club. The glove helps to maintain a good grip between your hand and the club so you can rip any drive or knockdown any short iron or pitch shot. Some golfers don’t feel the need to wear a glove, again, just a personal preference.

How to fit your glove

Although different manufacturers’ gloves fit differently from others, you can still get a general idea for sizing by measuring. Measure the hand the glove will go by wrapping a tape measure around the palm and onto the top of the knuckles. Golf gloves are designed to fit like a “second skin”; you want it to fit right over your hand. Insert your fingers first, pulling the leather all way to the tips then insert the thumb, insuring a good, secure fit. Pull the Velcro strap snuggly, but not so much that the Velcro overlaps the Velcro underneath. If you’ve got extra room at the end of your fingers, especially your middle finger, the glove is too big. Also, if you are pulling the Velcro strap far over from where it should be, the glove is too big width wise.

Glove Sizing Chart

Regular vs. Cadet

Regular fit gloves fit a hand in which the size of the hand is proportionate. The cadet glove sizes fit a hand that has shorter fingers and a wider palm.

Follow these guidelines and you won’t have to worry about your glove on the course- you can focus your attention to your round!
